(Lack of) Epigenetic variability in the human glucocorticoid receptor promoter CpG island

Turner Jonathan , Pelascini Laetitia , Muller Claude

Tissue and cell type specific control of glucocorticoid receptor (GR) levels is thought to occur through the usage of alternate promoters, and associated non-coding alternate first exons. The vast majority of the known alternative first exons are located within a 3.2 kbp CpG island. Methylation of certain CpG dinucleotides within the rat Gr promoter has been implicated in changes in hippocampal GR expression levels and the resultant disturbances in the HPA axis.<...

Concurrent Myasthenia gravis (MG) and Graves’ ophthalmopathy (GO)

Naughton Aoife , Oustabassidis Eva , David Joel , Norris Jonathan , Turner Helen

Myasthenia gravis (MG) and GravesÂ’ ophthalmopathy (GO) share many clinical characteristics but may also co-exist. Both are autoimmune disorders mediated by organ specific pathogenic autoantibodies to membrane surface receptors. Differential diagnosis and/or co-existence provides a potential management challenge, and there is a paucity of demographic information regarding precise prevalence rates and concurrence of disease.Method: Re...
